Welcome Back! We hope
everyone had a safe and blessed Thanksgiving Holiday!
STAFF FOCUS AWARDS
This week ACHS focuses on Angelica Chavez, SocialScienceTeacher. Ms. Chavez has a
long history with OUHSD. Before her three years teaching at ACHS and two years at PHS she graduated
from Oxnard High. After high school Ms. Chavez attended UC Berkeley where she majored in Political Science with plans to
become a lawyer. However, she began mentoring a young girl and changed her mind when she
realized she wanted to help kids before they needed a lawyer. At that point she transferred
to UCSB and worked on becoming a teacher. She also was closer to family benefiting her son,
Sam, too. Although Ms. Chavez’s major was in History, she was just three classes shy of
earning a minor in Chicano/a Studies too. Her Bachelor’s is from UCSB and her teaching
credential and Master’s in Education are both from Azusa Pacific University. Ms. Chavez is currently in her second
year working toward her doctorate in Educational Leadership at CLU; she expects to graduate
in 2014. Ms. Chavez has a combined total of 7 years teaching experience which includes two
years at Santa Paula High School and five years with OUHSD. Her son attends
Pacifica, where he is a freshman. Favorite hobbies Ms. Chavez
enjoys include cycling, kickboxing, and traveling. This past summer Ms. Chavez spent 40 days
in Europe where she travelled to 7 different countries. Her motto is
Life isn’t fair – do something about it. Ms. Chavez also owns a family income tax
and notary business and is a wedding officiate. Congratulations Angelica Chavez for being the
recipient of this week’s Certificated Staff Focus Award!
This week ACHS focuses on Brandae Rossini, MathTeacher. Mrs. Rossini is a graduate
of Royal High School in Simi Valley. After high school she attended Brigham Young University where she majored in math and earned her
Bachelor’s. Mrs. Rossini is currently working on her Master’s in Math Education. Four years
ago Mrs. Rossini began teaching with OUHSD and has been with us at ACHS the entire time.
Playing with her 16-month old son is Mrs. Rossini’s favorite activity. Her goal is to travel
the world. Mrs. Rossini said she is “grateful for her friends here at ACHS for their help and
support, and making me a better teacher.” Congratulations Brandae Rossini for being the
recipient of this week’s Certificated Staff Focus Award!

ACADEMIC DECATHLON
Thank you to all who participated in the ACADECA scrimmage on November 19. Hopefully this helped
the students get a feel for the kind of test questions that might be on the formal test coming up
on January 7 and February 4. The first competition in January will include the
prepared speech, impromptu speech, essay, and interview. On Wednesday, January 4 and Friday, January 6, there will be extended meetings from 3:00 to 4:45pm, where students will only work on impromptu speeches
and prepared speeches, if time is available.
NURSE’S NOOK
Our fall blood drive was November 30 and December 1. Thank you to all who participated.
FIELD TRIP
Mr. Campos’ Native Spanish 3 classes read The Underdogs, a famous novel about the Mexican
Revolution. To culminate this theme, the students went on a field trip to the LA County Library
because it is holding an exhibit on the Mexican Revolution sponsored by the Getty Museum
organization. Lunch at Olvera Street followed.
WOODSHOP
Woodshop donated toy cars to Casa Pacifica. Thank you Mr. Seidler for
orchestrating the donations and to our students for their giving hearts.
CHEERLEADERS
Once again Adolfo Camarillo High cheerleaders will be working at the Rescue
Mission in Oxnard on December 11th decorating the women and children’s shelters for
the holidays. Last year we had an amazing outreach from teachers, students and parents to
bring to the establishments. If you have any ornaments or children’s books, adult or
children’s clothing, or household items you could donate we would really appreciate it. The
cheerleaders will be decorating two homes for homeless and displaced women and children (one
of which is the emergency shelter), reading holiday stories to the kids, and decorating for
the Christmas season with the children. Please remember these women in many cases are coming
with just the clothes on their back and from situations where they left abusive households,
so any donations or clothing items would be greatly appreciated. We will be collecting items
until December 9th.

As you know, the power of PTSA is our membership– the parents, teachers,
and students in our schools and in our communities. Membership in your PTSA not only provides local
support, but also provides advocacy for children throughout California. The California State PTA was instrumental in creating:
-
Small class size at elementary schools;
-
Higher nutrition standards for school meals;
-
Funding for the arts in the state budget; and
-
Parent involvement requirements to help make your voice
heard.
It is the membership at ACHS that helps make this happen! The PTSA membership
campaign is a year round drive, For those of you who haven’t joined, it's not too late.
Membership envelopes are available in the front office at ACHS or we can mail you an
envelope. Please email CAMARILLOPTSA@yahoo.com if you would like an envelope mailed. Don't forget students may also
join!
